Basmati Rice

Basmati Rice

We love serving rice with every moji masala ® meal. But sometimes, traditional methods can make it feel a bit too heavy. This boil-and-steam technique is measurement-free, no-fuss, and creates light, fluffy, restaurant-quality basmati rice in no time. It’s perfect for weeknight dinners, and impressive enough for dinner parties.

Step 1. Rinse rice until water runs clear

Step 2. Add the rice to a pot and enough water to fully cover your rice plus an inch

Step 3. Bring to a boil for five minutes, until just al dente and drain in a colander.

Step 4. Lightly grease the bottom of your pot with olive oil and add the rice. Add a pat of butter if you like. Turn heat to medium-low.

Step 5. Use a thin kitchen towel to line the bottom of your lid and twist the excess towel around the knob of the lid. Place lid on and let the rice steam for about five minutes or until rice texture is slightly soft and fluffy.

Result: Fluffy, non-sticky, perfectly cooked basmati rice ready to serve with your favorite moji masala ® dishes.

Pro Tip

This method works beautifully with lentils, curries, or veggie masalas. Try pairing it with Dahl Masala or Chicken Curry for a complete Indian meal in under an hour.
